Vizianagaram: A Sambhu Prasad, excise superintendent of Vizianagaram, is participating in science seminars and programmes across the country. Apart from his regular job of conducting raids on ganja traffickers and arrack manufacturers, he is interested in creating awareness among children on astronomy.

He purchased a high-end telescope from the US by spending Rs 5 lakhs and installed on his terrace and creating awareness among the children on galaxy, solar system, solar and lunar eclipse   “Elders are superstitious, hence, they won’t allow the children to venture out during the eclipse, while some advice the pregnant women to protect themselves from rays during eclipse. All these are blind beliefs.

Actually, the rays during lunar eclipse won’t harm us but we should be cautious during solar eclipse. We should not watch the sonar eclipse with a naked eye and can witness with glass or telescope. Students should be aware of solar system. Eclipses are very common in solar system”, he said.
