Government kind gesture to AgriGold victims hailed

Vijayawada: AgriGold customers and Agents Welfare Association honorary president Muppalla Nageswara Rao hailed the decision of the State Cabinet to distribute Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the AgriGold customers, agents and customers who committed suicide due to the scam.

Addressing media conference at the CPI State office here, Muppalla Nageswara Rao on Saturday said the State Cabinet decided to distribute cheques worth Rs 5 lakh to each family at the Secretariat on February 12. 

He pointed out that the AgriGold customers and Agents Welfare Association is continuing prolonged struggle for justice. He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would hand over the cheques to the kin of 96 AgriGold victims. 

He said about 180 persons committed suicide but the government was giving compensation to only 96 families. He recalled that the association conducted Bus Yatra in 13 districts covering 4,500 km demanding justice to the affected families. He said the Association also conducted 30-hour Satyagraya in Vijayawada last month to exert pressure on the government to do pay compensation as early as possible. 

He thanked Chandrababu Naidu and CID officials for their response and decision to pay compensation on February 12.  Association vice-president M Naik, deputy general secretary B Chandrasekhar and others present.
