Maid pours acid on woman in theft bid
Visakhapatnam: A maid attacked a woman during an attempted theft at MVP Colony on Monday night. The woman, wife of a retired judge, suffered minor injuries in the incident.
According to police, Satyavati, wife of retired judge Rama Rao, was alone at her house in Sector-II of MVP Colony when her husband went out on a post-dinner walk.
At about 9.30 pm, noticing that Satyavati was alone in the house, Ramanamma, who works in a neighbouring house, entered into the house and tried to snatch her gold chain.
When Satyavati tried to resist and raised an alarm, Ramanamma brought acid used for cleaning toilet from the bathroom and threw it on her. However, the victim escaped with burn injuries on mouth, hand and some other places on the body.
As Satyavati ran out onto road screaming, neighbours went to her rescue and apprehended Ramanamma and handed her over to MVP Colony police. They also shifted the victim to a private hospital.
MVP Colony police registered a case against Ramanamma on a complaint lodged by victim’s husband Rama Rao. The condition of Satyavati is said to be out of danger.
MVP Colony police station SI Govind said that Ramanamma had admitted that she had committed the crime as she was desperate for money. Police are also investigating whether this is the first offence by the maid or she had committed thefts in the past.
