Advocates gherao Minister demanding High Court at Kurnool
Kurnool: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, who was on a one-day tour, was surrounded and obstructed by large number of advocates when he came to attend a meeting at the Collectorate here on Friday. On coming to know about his visit, the advocates who are on a relay hunger strike for want of a High Court, surrounded Narayana and demanded that the state government should set up a High Court in Kurnool.
They made it clear to Narayana that Kurnool was the ideal place to setup the High Court. Recounting the provisions in the Sri Bagh Pact, they said that if the capital was constructed at Kurnool, then the High Court would have been set up in Guntur. However, as the capital was being constructed at Amaravati near Guntur, then Kurnool should get a High Court. they added.
With this unexpected turn of events, Minister Narayana, who was in a confused state of mind, ultimately, assured them that he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister and try to resolve it. Later, in the evening, the Minister visited civic body office and handed over road sweeping machines to the corporation.
