Government should act in favour of Ramayapatnam
Ongole: The Prakasam Zilla Abhivriddhi Vedika demanded that the state government act in favour of Ramayapatnam port at least now and recommend it to the Union government for the construction in the place of Dugarajapatnam port.
The speakers at a meeting held under the aegis of the Prakasam Zilla Abhivriddhi Vedika here on Saturday, they opined that the public representatives from the district should come forward and exert pressure on the state government in favour of construction of the port at Ramayapatnam.
Forum president Chunduru Ranga Rao said that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley confirmed that Dugarajapatnam is not viable for technical and security related reasons to the TDP MPs when they met him on Friday.
Ranga Rao said that they are welcoming the decision of Jaitley to ask the state government to propose another place for the construction of port instead of Dugarajapatnam mentioned in the bifurcation bill.
Ranga Rao recollected that they are fighting for the Ramayapatnam port for years in the courts and public platforms, even though the government agencies like RITES submitted reports in favour of Ramayapatnam and against the Dugarajapatnam.
As the Finance Minister himself asked for the new proposal now, Ranga Rao appealed to the Chief Minister to recommend Ramayapatnam for the construction of port and ship building centre. He said that the port helps NIMS at Kanigiri, Industrial Corridor at Donakonda and the export of granite and other businesses.
Secretary of Prakasam Zilla Abhivriddhi Vedika Kommuri Kanaka Rao, treasurer A Kondala Rayudu, members Aruti Rao, B Suryanarayana and the Kisan Congress district president V Rajagopala Reddy also participated in the meeting.
