Police to step up vigil in city
Vijayawada: In order to step up vigil across the city, the city police will install another 2,000 CCTV cameras across the city in addition to the existing 1,000 installed prior to the Krishna Pushkaralu in August 2016.

The government is according top priority for the security, law and order maintenance in the city after bifurcation of the state. Of the 1,000 CCTV cameras installed in 2016, more than 800 are functioning properly and are very useful to the police department to keep a vigil on the increasing traffic, detection of crime and get feedback on law and order situation in the city.
The government sanctioned 2,000 more CCTV cameras, which will be connected to the city police dash board as well as Command Control Room.
The government as part of the Real Time Governance is sanctioning CCTV cameras to other cities and towns also. It will also provide manpower and equipment for the installation of 2,000 CCTV cameras across the city, said K Sravani, ACP North Zone.
She is supervising the network of CCTV cameras with the support of trained staff. She said installation of 2,000 more CCTV cameras will definitely give more confidence to the denizens about the public safety, helpful to the police to detect crime early and most importantly regulate the traffic more efficiently.
The city police successfully managed to nab culprits in the short span of time in two murder cases in the recent weeks with the help of CCTV camera footage. One person was brutally murdered by blade batch gang near Raghavendra theatre about one-a-and-a-half month ago.
Police verified the CCTV camera footage recorded near Budameru bridge and other areas and noticed the accused who were escaping after the murder.
In another case, the city police got the accurate information about the killers of notorious rowdy sheeter Kalidasu Subramanyam, who was murdered at Machavaram down junction nearly one and half month ago. The CCTV cameras recorded the images of the gang while they were entering and leaving the city after the murder.
Besides, the movement of the accused was recorded at least at six different locations in the city and that helped the police to identify the killers. Subramanyam hailed from Tenali and stayed at Raja Rajeswari Pet area for a few months. His rivals hatched a plan and brutally murdered in the city. All the accused were nabbed within short time. The city police cross checked the footage of CCTV cameras recorded in Tenali also.
The police are keeping a vigil on the traffic violators in different parts of the city with the help of CCTV cameras, which were already installed at all important junctions of the city on Eluru Road, MG Road, Benz Circle, Budameru Junction, BRTS Road, Dr Ramesh Hospital Junction and Ramavarappadu Junction and many other parts of the city. These cameras are helpful to the police to regulate traffic at the busy junctions.
