Thrust to sports in TD rule: Minister

Chittoor: Industries Minister N Amaranatha Reddy has inaugurated an international-level synthetic tennis court constructed at Chittoor Officers Club here on Monday by spending Rs 50 lakh. The Minister appreciated District Collector P S Pradyumna for taking an initiative to set up tennis court in the city. He maintained that the government has been encouraging the sports and games in a big way.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Reddy has mentioned that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed to developing Chittoor as a model city on par with Tirupati. The Minister made it clear that all the official programmes to be conducted in the district headquarters only. “Chief Minister is very particular in conducting district-level meetings at Chittoor and not in Tirupati,” he stated.

Amaranatha Reddy has directed the District Collector to ensure all the official meetings are held in Chittoor only. Referring to the water crisis in Chittoor city, the Minister said that abundant water is available in NTR Jalasayam. Chittoor MP Dr N Sivaprasad felt that it was not fair on the part of the officials and politicians to ignore the importance of Chittoor.

“I have repeatedly asked the district administration to hold all district-level meetings in Chittoor only. Unfortunately, in the recent times, majority of the district-level programmes are being held in Tirupati only,” he added. ZP Chairperson Girvani, TDP MLCs B N Rajasimhulu and G Srinivasulu, Chittoor MLA D A Satyaprabha, Mayor K Hemalatha and others spoke.

Later, the Collector has enlisted the progress of various schemes in the district. Earlier, Reddy has attended Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu’s condolence meeting organised at TDP office in which party district president P Nani and other leaders took part. The Minister recalled his association with the departed leader.
