Hospitals told to upgrade infra

Vijayawada: Krishna district collector B Lakshmikantham said serving the patients was the top priority of the Hospital Development Committee and the doctors should render their service with humanity.

Presiding over the meeting organised by the Hospital Development Committee at Hospital Meeting Hall on Tuesday, he said the doctors' first preference should be serving poor patients who come for treatment. The doctors should keep aside personal issues, which can be resolved later mutually through understanding, he added.

The collector said earlier patients had a negative feeling on the treatment and other activities at the government hospitals. But nowadays things were changing, and poor patients started believing that the treatment given at government hospitals was better, he added.

He ordered the committee to provide funds for infrastructure development and give a detailed report to APMSIDC for allocation of budget. The collector said a decision was taken to provide air conditioning to wards of Casualty, General, Burns, Gynecology, Surgery and Orthopedic with the hospital development funds and from the donors.

He ordered the medical superintendent and the MSIDC engineer to be alert on supply of electricity and oxygen facilities and cautioned regarding fire incidents at the hospital. He said sheds, benches, drinking water and toilets should be provided for attendants of patients with immediate effect.

The collector ordered the MSIDC engineer to complete the construction of drinking water tank within 15 days as summer was fast approaching. He said that as per the Supreme Court guidelines minimum infrastructure facility should be provided to the patients.

Six-wheel chairs were donated by the donors and 10 stretchers were purchased by HDC funds and the staff was taken on outsourcing basis. The committee has decided to purchase essential medicines and equipment.

HDC working chairman Chennupati Vidya, NGOs D Uma Maheswara Rao, M Venkata Prasad, S Rajamani, deputy commissioner Chandra Shekar, medical superintendent Dr D Chakradhar Rao and others were present.
