Raman’s exemplary research recalled
Visakhapatnam: Commemorating the announcement of discovery of ‘Raman Effect’ by Sir CV Raman, the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) celebrated the National Science Day.
Disclosing the science and technology achievements across the globe, Principal of Andhra University College of Engineering (A) Dr PS Avadhani delivered the keynote address at the valedictory celebrations of the Science Day.
On the occasion, Outstanding Scientist and Director NSTL Dr OR Nandagopan recalled the exemplary research of Sir CV Raman and stressed upon the need for focused approach to realise the benefits of scientific research for development of defence technologies.
Scientist ‘F’ and Additional Director of NSTL D Appa Rao acted as Chairman of the Science Day celebrations. As part of the celebrations, a quiz competition was conducted for students of Class VIII to X, painting competition for students of Class I to V and essay writing competitions for students from various colleges.
Scientist 'E' of NSTL K Kishore Kumar won this year’s Silicon Medal, given every year to the scientist for his outstanding work. He presented his work on ‘Supercavitating Projectiles’. The three-day celebrations concluded with the distribution of prizes to the children who won competitions.
At Andhra University
Andhra University took out a rally celebrating the National Science Day. Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao flagged off the rally. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that a large number of science students of the university served the nation with their researches. He specially mentioned that the Nobel Prize winner Sir CV Raman had worked as a professor in Andhra University which is a pride to the institution.

Visakhapatnam: Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vihar students highlighted the need to opt for alternate renewable resources in agriculture, energy and other areas. Students showcased their talent through various working models on solar energy, drone, low-cost air-conditioners and by displaying charts highlighting various benefits of science to society. Convener of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar SG Chalam, Principal A Kausalya congratulated the students and teachers on the occasion.
At Adity Degree College:
Aditya Degree College while celebrating the Science Day, organised a technical exhibition showcasing the hidden talents of the science students. Principal P Pradeep Kumar, campus in-charges NH Satish Kumar, M Satya Prakash and Physics Department head K Jagadish Kumar supervised the exhibition.
