Fight for Special Status reached climax: Jagan
Hyderabad: YSRCongress PartypresidentY S Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday said that his party is committed to get Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.
As part of PrajaSankalpa Yatra, the YSRCP chief met MLAs, MLCs, MPs, important leaders of the party, regional and Assembly conveners at Sivarampuram in Darsi Assembly constituency and gave directions to leaders taking part in the March 5 dharna in Delhi.
Stating that the fight for SCS had reached climax, Jagan said the TDP ministers did not quit from the Union Cabinet and added it is the game plan of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu how to hoodwinkthe people again. The YSRCP would move no-confidence motion against the Centreon March 21, he said putting the burden to garner support for it from TDP on Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan. He sought disqualification of party defectors and was firm on not attending the Assembly session till then.
“Chandrababu Naidu was trying to lure some more YSRCP MLAs, but their efforts were unyielding,” he said adding that their act had degraded their party’s image. YSRCP leaders stage dharna in Delhi on March 5 when the budget session resumes, he said and added the party MPs will stage demonstrations in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha till March 20.
On March 21, no-confidence motion against the government would be moved if the Centre did not budge, Jagan said. He said MP YS Subba Reddy has been trying to move a motion in Lok Sabha for a discussion on SCS s to AP under Rule no 184.
The first step is to put pressure on the NDA to quit government by TDP ministers and the second step is MPs from AP quitting en masse, Jagan said. But Chandrababu is interpreting it differently terming the last act would be the TDP quitting the government, he said and addedit clearly demonstrates his commitment on SCS. The YSRCP was against special packages but strongly in favour of the SCS, he said.
The TDP encouraged horse-trading and wooed 22 YSRCP MLAs to its fold and offered ministerial berths to four of them, making democracy a mockery, he said. The Opposition opting out of Assembly would grab national attention and promote wide-spread debate, he said charged the Chandrababu with trying to lure some of the MLAs to upset the soon-to-be held Rajya Sabha elections in his favour. He introduced the party Rajya Sabha candidate Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy to the party leaders.
