Self-defence techniques demonstrated at Sri Venkateswara University

Tirupati: The Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) celebrated International Women’s Day on a grand scale here on Thursday. A programme on ‘Self-Defence for Women’ was jointly organised by Women Students Hobby Centre for Self-Defence and SVU’s Department of Physical Education.

Speaking on the occasion, SVU Vice-Chancellor Prof A Damodaram has appreciated the girl students for their interest and dedication in learning self-defence techniques. Varsity Registrar Prof R K Anuradha has advised the students to spread the self-defence techniques to their friends and relatives to defend themselves in case of need.

More than 100 students and women employees have participated and demonstrated self-defence techniques during the free training programme. The programme aimed to teach young girls and women to defend themselves against physical attacks but also focuses on prevention and being aware.

Trained martial artists will teach simple moves in a repetitive way to change muscle memory of the participants and sensitise them. Kyoshi Prof Dr G Sudarsanam and other varsity officials were present.
