Amaravati: Municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana on Wednesday said the state government would collect details of the outdated drinking water pipelines, which are posing a threat to the people in their respective cities and towns.

Replying to the volley of questions raised by some members in the Legislative Council over the death of 10 people in Guntur due to outbreak of diarrhoea, Narayana said the disease occurred in municipal divisions of 5,6,12 and 13 in Guntur on March 4 resulting in death of five persons.

He said action will be taken against nine officials for the tragedy and informed the House that only five persons died due to diarrhoea in
Guntur. When the MLC pointed out that 10 persons died, the minister said that he would collect the detailed information about the deaths and reasons for it.

He said the GMC had invited tenders on February 26 for replacing old pipelines at a cost of Rs10 crore but the disaster struck on March 4. He further said the government was considering replacement of outdated water pipelines in the cities and municipalities of the state.
