Arrest of CPM leaders decried

Ongole: The Opposition parties, including CPM, CPI, YSRCP, Congress and others, demanded the release of the CPM leaders who were arrested at the Collectorate on Monday. They warned the government that they will take up a district wide movement for the release of the leaders and with demands of special package for Prakasam district and fulfillment of promises made to the district.

On Monday, the CPM leaders staged a protest in front of the Collectorate with demands of immediate completion of pending projects, inclusion of the district in backward districts list, Rs 10,000 crore special package for development of the district. 

They were arrested by the police and sent to remand by the court. On Tuesday, the CPM state secretary P Madhu took out a rally from Sundaraiah Bhavan to the Collectorate demanding immediate release of the arrested leaders.

He warned that government that they will call for district bandh if the arrested were not released. He demanded the government that it should keep its promises and fulfil all the promises made to the district, including the completion of nine pending projects, allocation of more funds to Veligonda project, construction of Ramayapatnam port in the place of Dugarajapatnam.

Speaking about the Special Category Status to the state here on Tuesday, Madhu demanded that the TDP prove its honesty by coming out of the NDA and demand the Union government to announce Ramayapatnam port, railway zone, along with the Special Category Status.
