Gadde seeks houses for canal bund residents

Amaravati: Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan appealed to the government to allot houses free of cost to the residents of canal bunds. Participating in the Question Hour in the Assembly on Thursday, he asked the government to allot houses without collecting money due to residents of canal bunds are poorer sections.

He said the government has taken a decision to vacate the encroachers from canal bunds. He appreciated the government for implementing the greenery and canals beautification project.

But a huge number of families have been residing on bunds of Eluru canal, Bandar canal and Ryves canal for the past several years. Already, they spent money for basic facilities and construction of houses, he said. Now the government was removing the houses from canal bunds, he deplored and added that the alternative houses are being allotted to the victims on a payment basis.

Now the residents of canal bunds are not in a position to bear the amount for new houses, he said. The MLA requested the government to allot the houses free of cost considering them as special case.

Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana reacted positively and said that the MLA’s request would be pursued. He also said the government was constructing high quality houses using the latest technology. The government was using quality material for internal infrastructure, he said and added that the same quality of material was used in his own house also.
