Vizag poised to be epicentre of growth
Visakhapatnam: The defence arm of Larsen and Toubro inaugurated Multi-Skill Training Centre here on Thursday under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. The centre with a capacity to train 200 students per batch is focused on imparting specialised skill-sets required for the construction of warships and submarines.
The training facility was launched by Admiral SR Sarma, Director General of Naval Project, Indian Navy, Admiral SR Sarma and whole-time Director and Member of the Board, L&T, JD Patil in the presence of Member of Board (L&T-Defence) Commodore Mukhesh Bhargava.
Speaking on the occasion, JD Patil said Indian Navy envisions to be self-reliant by developing and producing a majority of the naval equipment and platforms within the country.
Visakhapatnam, owing to its strategic location and presence of key naval establishments, is poised to be the epi-centre of the growth story in this area. It is essential to accelerate skill-building to support current and future naval construction projects.
The L&T intends to support government’s ‘Make-in-India’ as well as ‘Skill India’ initiatives. L&T’s Multi-Skill Training Centre is a step ahead in this direction, which would provide sponsored training to the youth of this region, including women, to build their skill-sets for warship and submarine construction, repair & refits.”
During the training period, L and T would provide a stipend, hostel facility and commuting assistance to the trainees. In addition, the skill development in computer-aided design software like AutoCAD, Catia etc is also included for the diploma holders.
DGNP Admiral SR Sarma expressed his appreciation for this initiative taken by L and T which would fulfil the vital gap in providing quality training in this strategic segment in the region.
