Water to be released from Handri-Neeva in April

Amaravati: Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said the government would release water for Lepakshi, Kuppam and other areas in Rayalaseema districts by April from Handri-Neeva project. He said the government had spent Rs 3,200 crore against the allocation of Rs 1,278 crore in the budget.
Answering to members in the Assembly on Friday, the minister said the Handri-Neeva project is a lifeline to Rayalaseema districts and would provide water for cultivating 6.02 lakh acres.
Stating that the Opposition party had created hurdles for stalling the project by approaching the courts, he said however, the government overcome the cases by successfully presenting its arguments.
