Vijayawada: The doctors throughout the country would go on strike on April 2, said Dr Subhas Chandra Bose, president and Dr Rasik Sanghvi, secretary of Vijayawada branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) here on Wednesday. Speaking to newsmen here on Wednesday, said that the Doctors Maha Panchayat has also endorsed and supported the strike.

The joint action committee of medical students, resident doctors and junior doctors met on March 27 with IMA national president Dr Ravi S Wankhedkar in the chair and decided that resident doctors and junior doctors boycott work except emergencies on April 2.

It may be recalled that the doctors have been demanding withdrawal of the proposed National Medical Council and the proposed Central Act against violence in hospitals. Dr Subhas Chandra Bose said that all IMA local branches with medical colleges under their jurisdiction would play a pro-active role.

The doctors and medical students would take out rallies in all the district headquarters throughout the country, he added. He said that all hospitals and clinics would display posters depicting the demands of the doctors.
