‘IISER Tirupati inching towards excellence’

-    New courses are being introduced every year: Institute Director
-    Says 30 faculty members in different disciplines appointed 
-    IISER celebrates its third foundation day

Tirupati: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Tirupati has celebrated its third foundation day on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Director of the Institute Prof KN Ganesh has presented the annual report in which he expressed hope that the institute to bloom as science institute of potential excellence in the years to come when the campus is established, to create infinite possibilities for its students and faculty to explore their academic talents.

He underlined that during the first three years of its existence, the academic activity at IISER, Tirupati has witnessed a steady growth in theory and practical curricula and implementation. For third-year students, several advanced courses were being offered now like oncology, neuroscience, astrophysics etc. and more such courses were in store for the fourth year which will start from August 2018. He said, the third year saw appointment of about 30 faculty in different disciplines, who have established good teaching practices, undergraduate laboratories and initiated research as well. 

He expressed happiness that most of the faculty have received research grants from SERB, DST and one faculty member has been awarded the prestigious Wellcome Trust Grant. Each faculty member has at least one PhD student, a project assistant and a post-doctoral scientist working together, Prof Ganesh averred. Faculty in mathematics, physics have been actively participating in various national-level programmes. 

Even, the students were active in a wide range of club activities like quiz club, science club, biology club, eco club, mathematics club, astronomy club, movie club etc. 

Director Prof Ganesh also said that IISER, Tirupati was active in the MHRD flagship programme Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme that unifies students from all over the country to emphasise the importance of cultural diversity in integrating India. 

On this occasion, Prof Ajay K Sood of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has delivered the foundation day lecture.
