New Delhi: Marshals broke up the protest of the Telugu Desam MPs inside the chambers of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Friday. They were agitating over the Speaker leaving them without receiving their representation. The MPS who refused to be cowed down continued their protest at the Gate No 1 of Parliament.

The MPs who were protesting against the Speaker for adjourning the House sine die without taking up their notice for no-confidence motion, continued their protest in the House even after all others had left.

They sat right in front of the seat where the Prime Minister sits and kept raising slogans that the state needed special category status. They condemned the action of the government in ensuring that the notice for no-confidence motion did not come up for discussion. As they were staging the protest, the security staff told them that the Speaker wanted to see them in her chamber.

The MPs then went to the Speaker's chamber. Meanwhile, the security staff closed the doors of the lower House, locked it and left. The MPs who went to the Speaker's chamber found that she had already left and realised that that they

were on a wild goose chase. They kept raising slogans condemning the attitude of the Speaker and that of the government in addressing the issues of the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the secretary-general of Parliament went to them and requested them to call off their protest. When the entreaties fell on the deaf ears, the marshals bodily lifted them out of the Speaker’s chamber at about 6 pm. In the melee, Rajahmundry MP Murali Mohan complained of uneasiness and was shifted to a hospital.
