Heavy rain leads to traffic snarls

Tirupati: Heavy rains lashed the pilgrim city bringing respite to scorching heat on Thursday. The rain started in the evening diluted into a drizzle lasting for 20-30 minutes only to resume after an hour as heavy showers, accompanied by lightning.

With rain lasted for more than an hour, caused inconvenience to those returning home after office and caused traffic snarls at many places while in many localities power supply was disrupted due to heavy rains. Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara also witnessed heavy rains while widespread rains reported in Chittoor district.  

According to reports reaching here Chittoor and surrounding mandals witnessed a heavy downpour while Srikalahasti and Madanapalle areas also reported good rains. It may be noted here that the district has been experiencing rains since May 1 resulting in the average rainfall of the district as on May 3 to 10.4 mm which includes 2 mm on May 1, 7.3 on May 2 and 1.2 (at 8 am) on May 3.
