14-day remand for AgriGold ex-director

Eluru: Avva Sita Rama Rao, former director of AgriGold company was remanded to 14 days judicial custody by district principal sessions court here on Thursday.

The CID officials went to Gurgaon near Delhi and arrested Avva Sita Rama Rao, who is the 16th accused in the multi-crore scam case. Chairman and managing directors and some other directors were already arrested and are now under judicial custody in district jail in Eluru.

After arresting Sita Rama Rao at Gurgaon, the CID officials brought him here within 48 hours and produced before district principal sessions court. The sessions court, after hearing the public prosecution argument, ordered judicial remand for 14 days to Sita Rama Rao.

After three-year hunt, the CID police finally traced him at Gurgaon and arrested a couple of days ago. They seized some valuable documents from his house during the arrest.

He was charge-sheeted by CID for diverting the AgiGold properties to benami name. He was the director of AgriGold from 1997 to 2013. There are allegations that he had created obstacles to Essel Group to take over the scam-hit company.

After the court’s orders, CID personnel shifted Sita Rama Rao to district jail in Kota Dibba in the afternoon. Before producing in the court,  the officials took him to the hospital and conducted medical tests there.
