Taxes contribute to fuel price: Taxpayers Association
Vijayawada: The Taxpayers Association has alleged that the State and the Central governments have been imposing taxes, which are leading to increase in prices of petrol and diesel.
The association demanded that the governments decrease the taxes to reduce the fuel price or bring it under GST.
The association alleged that the government was linking fuel price to the increase in the crude oil prices, which was not correct.
The Taxpayers Association secretary, MV Anjaneyulu informed the media here on Thursday that the price of petrol had reached Rs 83 and diesel Rs 75.
He rubbished the government contention that the fuel price rise was due to the increase of the international crude oil price.
He said that with the taxes imposed by both the state and central governments, the price of fuel was skyrocketing.
Anjaneyulu explained that in 2014, when Modi formed the government, the crude oil barrel price was Rs 6,329. Now, the price was Rs 4,930 only.
He alleged that the central excise tax in 2014 on petrol was Rs 9.48 and now it had reached Rs 19.48 which was more than double. For diesel, it was about Rs 3.56 and now it was increased to Rs 15.33.
Association president V Samireddy alleged that the Andhra Pradesh State government was collecting Rs 4 on every litre of petrol.
He further said that the state government was collecting Rs 22.69 on petrol and Rs 17.09 on diesel as VAT, which was more compared to other states.
The association member, VS Ramaraju said that the original cost of the petrol was only Rs 36.93 and the State and Central government taxes were about Rs 42.18.
He said that the diesel original cost was Rs 39.81 and the taxes of both governments were Rs 32.42.
Due to the high fuel price, transportation price had gone up and the prices of commodities were increased affecting the middle-class and BPL families, he added.
