World Environment Day celebrated
Ongole: The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board and other organisations celebrated the World Environment Day with various programmes in Ongole on Tuesday.
The APPCB Nellore regional division officials organised a Green Rally here from Municipal Corporation office to district Collectorate through Potti Sriramulu Center, Gandhi Road, Trunk Road and Church Centre.
The district legal services authority secretary, T Raja Venkatadri flagged off the rally while T Brahmaiah, in-charge municipal commissioner, S Srinivasa Rao AEE of APPCB, J Ganesh Kumar, analyst, Venkateswarlu, assistant city planner, Sundararami Reddy, municipal engineer and others also participated in it.
In the meeting held after the rally, Brahmaiah explained the theme of the year, Beat Plastic Pollution. He emphasised the need of reduction in plastic use, recycling it.
He said that due to the increased use of plastic, the tanks, rivers and seas are being contaminated with it and affecting the food cycle of the human being causing various diseases.
Ganesh Kumar said that the United Nations is celebrating the World Environment Day in New Delhi this year. He asked the public to shun the use of plastic carry bags and start using cloth bags to save Mother Earth from pollution.
He wished that the future generations get a good environment with fresh air and water.
Srinivasa Rao said only the plastic bags with thickness of over 50 microns are able to do recycle.
He said that the animals are dying due to the indigestion of the plastic bags in the waste they are eating.
He said that according to the Plastic Waste Management Act 2016, the manufacturers of plastic material should collect the plastic waste for recycle through collection centers.
The district judge, MG Priyadarsini and the district court staff and advocates planted various saplings on the premises of the district court.
The judge wished that everyone cooperates with the authorities to make the environment clean and fresh.
The NSS students from QIS Engineering Colleges celebrated the World Environment Day by spreading awareness on plastic usage and importance of growing trees.
They planted trees on the college premises and pledged to protect them for a safe environment.
Nidamanuri Educational Society president Nidamanuri Nageswara Rao and secretary Surya Kalyan Chakravarthy appreciated the students and encouraged them to take up research activities on environment-friendly innovations.
