Awareness Events Help Boost Confidence of Women

Vijayawada: Community-led Action Programme by Police (CLAPP) for Women's Safety in Public Places meeting was organised here on Friday.

The meeting was jointly organised by Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), International Foundation for Crime Prevention and Victim Care (PCVC) in partnership with Vijayawada City police which was sponsored by US Consulate General, Hyderabad.

The chief guest of the programme was US Consulate General Hyderabad Catherine Hadda.

Addressing the gathering, she said that women awareness programmes should be organised for creating confidence in women and the stakeholders should take active part in the programmes to build a strong nation.

She appealed to the police to be a part of the awareness programme in making women come out without fear. She appreciated the members of VMM and the police department for their service in providing safety to women.

City Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang stressed to enhance community participation in planning and effective implementation of the response systems by the police through community-police partnership. 

He informed that in 2017, the police department along with VMM had brought a revolution in the safety of the women in the city. 

They had organised many awareness programmes to educate and create awareness on safety of women. He said that they had solved many problems relating to women apart from counselling to transform them into responsible citizens, he added.

PCVC representative from Chennai Dr Rashmi Singh said that Vijayawada city was transforming into women friendly city with the contribution of police department and VMM and appreciated them.

VMM director Dr Deeksha thanked CLAPP for encouraging all the programmes taken up by the VMM.

RTC, Prohibition and Excise, Railway Police and others participated in the programme.
