US Independence Day celebrated in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: United States Consul General Katherine Hadda, hosting a reception here to celebrate the 242nd anniversary of the independence of the United States of America, said that this is the first time the US Independence Day was celebrated in Vijayawada and only second time outside Hyderabad.

Addressing the selected gathering from the elite of the city, Hadda said that Vijayawada perfectly captured many exciting trends in India right from helping lead Andhra Pradesh to its number-one ranking in easy of doing business to the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding to build India’s first state-of-the-art Hyperloop transport system for Vijayawada. The theme of the Independence Day celebrations in Vijayawada was ‘From Hollywood to Tollywood’.

Recalling the contribution of Andhra Pradesh for the promotion of the film industry, the Consul General said that it was impossible to speak about Tollywood without recognising the vital role the state played in its creation and development. Andhra Pradesh has long been the heart and soul of Tollywood, she added. She said that the state has produced the biggest stars like NT Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
