WG tops in Constructing Cement Roads
Eluru: Panchayat Raj Superintending Engineer S Manikyam said that his department has constructed 2,010-km stretch cement roads at a cost of Rs 523 crore during the last three years to provide qualitative road facility to the rural masses in the district.
He participated in a group discussion on the basic amenities and other subjects as part of Nava Nirmana Deeksha programme held at Collectorate here on Thursday.
He said that since Independence, no government had constructed 2,000-km cement roads in a short period in the country, which was a record created in West Godavari district.
He said that as part of “Chandranna Bata” programme, the cement roads’ construction was taken up in the district.
Another 1,500-km stretch of cement roads would be completed to provide cent percent road facilities to the villagers.
He informed that about 4,687-km stretch of roads were under Panchayatiraj jurisdiction in the district and the government had allocated funds under various schemes.
About 57 roads were constructed at a cost of Rs 65 crore from NABARD financial assistance. Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana scheme has sanctioned Rs 66 crore for construction of 20 roads in a stretch of 120 km, he added.
He informed that 364 Anganwadi buildings’ construction was taken up at a cost of Rs 26 crore to provide permanent buildings to Anganwadi centres.
