People told to eradicate child labour
Vijayawada: District Collector B Lakshmikantham said that it is the responsibility of everyone in society to eradicate child labour. Addressing the inaugural programme of ‘World Day against Child Labour’ organised by Forum for Child Rights- Childline 1098 in collaboration with the Government and Non-Government Organisations here on Tuesday, the Collector said that all the government, non-government and other voluntary service organisations should fight against child labour in a big way to wipe it out.
He said that education was essential for any change in society. Education will be given priority, along with other activities in the district, he added. He said through this programme, children should be admitted to schools and everyone should feel the responsibility to make this week long programme a success.
The Collector flagged off auto announcement, took part in signature campaign and released stickers. Scholarships were given to the children and 16 child labour in the district were sent to schools on the occasion. Representatives of government, non-government and voluntary organisations participated in the programme.
