Road Development at Brisk Pace in West Godavari district

Eluru: The West Godavari district administration has embarked on development of roads in urban areas. This step was initiated keeping in mind the ever increasing traffic apart from roads removed to ensure completion of Polavaram project.

The administration has planned to develop roads in Eluru, Bhimavaram, Tadepalligudem, Tanuku, Palakol, Jangareddigudem and other places to ease traffic. As part of its efforts to give uplift to roads, the administration has been widening roads into two-line and four-line at different places.

While some roads are being converted from single line to four lines, other roads have been widened by seven to 10 metres. The works are progressing on a brisk pace in agency, dry lands and delta areas.

Various departments including R&B, Panchayat Raj, Zilla Parishad, Integrated Tribal Development Agency and national highways have been busy to lay roads to meet the traffic. Both state and Central governments have released funds for the development. The potholes on roads are being filled and repaired with the funds.

The R&B department has taken up works at a cost of Rs 337 crore with the funds released for 2017-18. Out of total 218 works earmarked for the district, works relating to 141 roads have already been completed.

A sum of Rs 24.5 crore will be spent on Eluru- Jangareddigudem road. In a stretch of 15 km, laying of both four-line roads and 10 metres wide roads was in progress at different stages.

Similarly, works with Rs 30 crore were taken up on Chebrolu-Dubacherla route. A sum of Rs 50 crore Central funds is being spent on Jeelugumilli- Jangareddigudem route.
