Scorching heat during monsoon in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: For the first time in the history of Visakhapatnam, the port city is registering the highest ever temperatures in the month of June. As there is no south-west monsoon impact and clear sky, scorching summer heat right from the morning hours sapping the energies of the citizens.
People are not venturing out as the temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius. The people are rushing to the air-conditioned theatres and other places during the day time. Not worrying about the power bills, people continue using air conditioners throughout the day and nights.
There is a visible impact on the daily business on Sunday. There are no crowds at the non-vegetarian and vegetable shops. The Rythu Bazars also registered less sales on Sunday.
In fact, looking at the temperatures in the month of June during the past 20 years, at any time the temperature not crossed 30 degrees Celsius. However, the temperatures crossing 40 degrees for the past four days.
In Visakhapatnam, the day temperature registered 41 degrees Celsius on Sunday with 50 per cent humidity. There is no air circulation on Sunday. The wind speed registered just 13 kmph. During 2017 on the same day, the highest temperature is 29 degrees and the humidity is 87 per cent.
“Yes, it is true that highest ever temperatures are being registered in the third week of June in 2018 due to the poor south-west monsoon impact. Meanwhile, 40 to 42 degrees Celsius temperatures are being registered due to dry and heat winds coming from westerly direction.
Unless there is a sudden change in the atmosphere, it is assessing that similar climate conditions will prevail till June 25,” one of the senior IMD scientists explained to The Hans India.
