AP schools shut for 3 days
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has declared holidays to schools for three days from June 19 to 21 due to prolonged heatwave conditions prevailing in the state.
By a GO, the school education department said that all government, mandal parishad, model, aided and private schools would remain closed on these three days. They would reopen on June 22, the GO said.
In a dark reminder to the continuing heatwave conditions, a sixth standard student Sagar Gupta, 10, died due to sun stroke in China Waltair, Visakhapatnam. He developed loose motions and fever on Sunday night and died on Monday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
His parents said that their child could not withstand the searing heat and dehydration in his body. For the last one week, mercury has been hovering around 40 degrees C which is very high for the port city.
