Free Safai Karmacharis from profession by 2022
Vijayawada: National Commission for Safai Karamcharis member Jagadish Hirmani said on Tuesday the commission has been trying to free the karmacharis from the profession by 2022 in the country. He felt the living standards of the Safai Karmacharis should be improved in the country.
Addressing a review meeting with the district officials at the sub-collector’s conference hall, Hirmini expressed happiness on Vijayawada city getting fifth position in Swachh Bharat across the country.
He said that there is a need to provide good facilities for Safai Karmacharis by both the State and Central governments, he added. He suggested to the officials that salary should be paid to the karmacharis according to wage law and health camps should be organised, along with master health check-up, for their good health.
He further stated that the Safai Karmacharis should be allotted free house through various government schemes and loans should be sanctioned through National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) schemes. He said that he had noticed women Safai Karmacharis working at Pandit Nehru Bus Station, Vijayawada, do not have gloves and ID cards.
He instructed the officials to take action and provide all the facilities to them and submit a report. He said in a clean city like Vijayawada the Safai Karmacharis should be given basic facilities to perform their duties. He informed the Central government was providing loan to eligible karmacharis between Rs 10, 000 lakhs and Rs 20 lakhs and pointed out that awareness should be created on it.
