Thakur is appointed as new DGP of AP
Amaravati: RP Thakur is appointed as new Director General of Police of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. The 1986 batch IPS officer is serving as Director General of Anti Corruption Bureau at present. As the present DGP Malakondaiah is due to retire today, government appointed Thakur as incumbent.
Thakur born on July 1, 1961 and completed IIT at Kanpur in Civil Engineering. He served as Additional SP at National Police Academy in Hyderabad, as appointment after joining as IPS on December 15, 1986.
He was posted as ASP at Guntur and Warangal districts of united AP. Then he also served at West Godavari, Kadapa, Krishna and Warangal districts Superintendent of Police.
DCP of Hyderabad zone, DIG of Anantapur and Chittoor were some well known services rendered by Thakur.
He also served as DIG of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Eastern Zone at Patna and after getting promotion as IG he served as DG of Drugs and Copy Rights in Hyderabad.
He rendered serves as boss of the Controller of Legal Metrology as ADG.
After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Thakur served as DG of Vigilance and Enforcement and ADGP of Law and Order. From November 19, 2016 onwards, he has been leading the ACB as DG.
In his career, he got many awards and medals including Indian Police Medal in 2003, ASSP medal in 2004, President of India medal in 2011.
Thakur is going to take charge as DGP from Malakondaiah.
