YSRCP bandh for Special Category Status total

Kurnool: Barring some stray and violent incidents over the arrest of YSRCP leaders, the bandh organised by the YSRCP demanding Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh is total and peaceful in the district. No untoward incidents have been observed. The party leaders and activists in large number came on to roads in the early morning following the directions from party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy. They did not allow the RTC buses to leave the bus deports and asked the businessmen to shut down their shops.

Early in the morning on Tuesday, the YSRCP’s Kurnool Parliamentary constituency in-charge BY Ramaiah and Assembly constituency in-charge Hafeez Khan, accompanied by large number of activists, reached to RTC New Bus Stand and staged a protest. They obstructed the plying of buses of faraway destinations. Sensing trouble and as a precautionary measure, the RTC officials took steps so that the buses remain in depots. 

Later, some of the activists took on to the roads and ordered the shop owners to close their business units. Even the autos were not allowed to ply for some time. Common people faced the inconvenience due to lack of buses. Except emergency services, no other transport was allowed during the bandh. Similar situation prevailed in Nandyal, Dhone, Adoni, Alur, Pathikonda, Nandikotkur and Atmakur towns. Panyam MLA Gowru Charitha Reddy was house arrested in the wee hours and she was not allowed to take part in the bandh. 

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman and Dhone MLA Buggana Rajendranath Reddy was also house arrested in Dhone. Silpa Chakrapani Reddy at Atmakur, Silpa Ravi Chandra Kishore Reddy at Nandyal, G Jayaram at Alur and Sai Prasad Reddy at Adoni were also arrested. Pathikonda constituency in-charge, Sridevi Reddy, however, managed to reach Pathikonda and staged a stir in front of bus stand along with other party activists.

The party activists also obstructed the transportation between Pathikonda to Adoni, Mantralayam, Yemmiganur and Alur. Sensing trouble, almost all the educational institutions have declared holiday. Even the commercial establishments and other business units have downed their shutters voluntarily. Except mild tensions over the arrest of party leaders, no untoward incidents were occurred. Police personnel were deployed at various places to tackle any untoward incidents.
