TDP MLA protests for irrigation project
Srikakulam: TDP Palasa MLA GSS Sivaji staged a silent protest at his Palasa office on Wednesday against engineers’ negligence in completion of off-shore reservoir in the stipulated time.
Off-shore irrigation project was constructed in Palasa Assembly segment to provide water to 27,000 acres and drinking water for Palasa town and surrounding villages. From the beginning, the MLA is exerting pressure on officials for its completion and finally officials fixed 31, 2018 as target.
But at least 40 per cent works of the project are yet to be completed. MLA Sivaji accused the executive engineer of the project B Sekhara Rao for his negligence and misleading the facts on the project.
Before launching the silent protest, the MLA said that his intention is to exert pressure on the officials concerned to finish the project on time and bring the issue to the notice of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
He found fault with the engineers and district-level officers in monitoring the project works from time to time. He said that the project is a lifeline of Palasa area farmers, but not even 40 per cent works are yet to be completed. MLA’s daughter and TDP district president G Sirisha, the party leaders and followers attended the protest.
