Nellore: Activists of the Kula Vivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangam (KVPS) organised a protest at the Collectorate here on Monday, demanding action against Rapur Sub-Inspector (SI) B Lakshmana Rao for harassing Dalits. They demanded to book case against the SI under SC, ST Atrocities Act. Sangam activists also demanded the government to clear cases against the residents of Harijanawada in Rapur.

Leaders said the SI turned a dispute for Rs 2,000 into a huge issue saying the police official has been attacking all sections of people in the small town which shows his highhandedness. Because of the issue and subsequent pressure mounted by the police, local people are leaving the areas with fear thinking that they would face police cases, they said.

Even though, there were three private cases registered against the SI, senior officials are continuing him in the duties, who has been harassing common people by way of interrogation, they blamed. They demanded the government to transfer him by removing cases on the local people.

Local leaders were present. Further, Gudur MLA P Sunil Kumar staged a protest on Monday by wearing a black badge. He warned that all Dalit leaders would unite and stage protests across the state on the issue of booking cases on the local Dalits.
