Ongole: Ongole former MP YV Subba Reddy announced that he will be embarking on 207 km padayatra in the western area of Prakasam district demanding that the government show commitment in completing the Veligonda project and to create awareness among the people on the negligence of government towards the district.

Speaking to the media at the YSRCP district office here on Sunday, along with party district president Balineni Srinivasa Reddy and in-charge Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Subba Reddy disclosed that the padayatra will start on August 15 and continue for 15 days.

He pointed out that the people in five Assembly constituencies in the western area of the district viz Markapuram, Yerragondapalem, Darsi, Giddaluru and Kanigiri are struggling for water for drinking and agriculture needs. He said that the foundation stone for the Veligonda project, which is the lifeline of the area, was laid by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in 1996, but no funds were released for it.

Former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had started the works and completed nearly 70 per cent of it by funding it adequately, he claimed. After the demise of Rajasekhar Reddy, he alleged that the Congress and TDP governments neglected the Veligonda project.

The former MP said that as per the orders of YSRCP President YS Jaganmohan Reddy they are taking up the padayatra to demand the government restart the works of the Veligonda project. He announced that they create awareness among the people about the negligence government towards the district.

Subba Reddy also said that the TDP and Congress sent Jaganmohan Reddy to jail for 16 months in cases that were not proved so far and now trying to link Bharathi in cases with the help of BJP. He questioned how a few media houses got hold of the ED charge sheet before it filed before the court as a support of his claim. He announced that they know value-based politics and will fight the cases in court.
