AP Govt will make farming profitable, says Minister Prattipati Pulla Rao

 Eluru: Minister for Civil Supplies Prattipati Pulla Rao has informed that the State government is striving to make farming profitable by taking various measures. Waiver of farm loans, speeding up of irrigation projects and mechanisation of agriculture were among the steps taken in this direction, he said.

He hoisted national flag and inspected guard of honour as part of Independence Day celebrations at Police Parade Grounds here on Wednesday.

The minister said the state government was committed for completion of Polavaram project. Even the Centre was cooperating with the state in accomplishing the project. He hailed the people of West Godavari in making Pattiseema project a reality. 

Pattiseema project helped the state get crop worth several thousand crores of rupees. The government had also been striving to complete Chintalapudi lift irrigation scheme to irrigate two lakh acres of agricultural land. 

The government had spend Rs 737 crore for delta modernisation. Under Neeru-Chettu programme, 30.6 lakh cubic metres of silt was removed from 412 minor irrigation tanks. The government, with the ambition to make farming profitable, had been waiving loans apart from other measures. 

About 4.93 lakh farmers in the district had been provided funds to the tune of 1,244 crore for loan waiver. The funds were already credited to  the accounts of the farmers, he  explained.
