We will act tough against red sanders smugglers: DGP RP Thakur

Vijayawada: State Director General of police RP Thakur made it clear that police will act tough against the red sanders smugglers. He made this statement while conducting a review meeting with the officials of the police and forest departments at the state police headquarters near Mangalagiiri in Guntur district on Thursday.

Top officials of the police and forest departments participated in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, the DGP underlined the need to use technology in curbing the red sanders smuggling. He said use of satellite imagery, drones, face recognition at check posts are giving good results in checking red sanders smuggling.

He asked the forest department staff to take the help of police to protect the national wealth. The DGP further stated that the inter-departmental coordination between the police, forest department, transport department, central agencies like DRI, ports, and revenue is vital and the AP police are leading the task of conserving the national wealth of red sanders. 

The DGP assured necessary support and cooperation to check smuggling of red sanders. Chief principal conservator of forests Ilyas Rizvi, IFS, ADG law and order Harish Kumar Gupta, ADG CID Amit Garg, IGP law and order Ravi Shanker Ayyanar, IGP Red Sanders Task Force Kantha Rao attended the coordination meeting.
