Payments bank services at Ongole Post offices from September 1

Ongole: The Indian Postal Department is launching the payments bank services in 650 branches across the country from September 1, announced the senior superintendent of post offices for Prakasam division, Mohammed Jaffer Sadik.

Speaking at a press meet on Friday at the Head Post Office in Ongole, Sadik said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would launch the payments bank services in New Delhi on Saturday, while the service would simultaneously be launched by the department officials in 650 branches and 1,55,000 post offices. 

He said that the service would be launched in Ongole Head Post Office through the programme being held at the Batchala Balaiah Kalyanamandapam in the presence of Minister Siddha Raghavarao, MLCs Karanam Balarama Krishnamurthy, Magunta Srinivasula Reddy, ZP Chairman Edara Haribabu and MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao.

He said that the India Post Payments Bank account could be opened without filling any applications and initial deposit. 

He explained that the bank offers savings and current accounts and it can be used for transactions like payments, transfers and deposits with the help of the QR code and biometric authentication. 

He said that mobile banking, internet banking, SMS banking and direct benefit transfer services like gas subsidy and scholarships were available in the payments bank account. 

He asked the public to utilize the service either by visiting the nearby branch or contacting the postman of their area.
