Media role key in protecting democracy says BJP MLC Somu Virraju
Rajamahendravaram: BJP MLC Somu Virraju has underlined the need to write quality news items with facts to imbibe confidence among the people which is the need of the hour.
Participating in a workshop conducted for journalists by Press Information Bureau (PIB) here on Tuesday, he said the journalists should play a pivotal role for the development of the country as well as for the wellbeing of society.
He said press was the fourth pillar of the democracy along with legislature, executive and judiciary.
Journalists were bridges between the government and the people. They were eyes and ears of the government.
He advised PIB to take the Central government schemes to grassroots level availing the services of media.
MLA Dr Akula Satyananarayana said PIB was like bridge between Central government and journalists and advised its officials to take the welfare schemes to the people by giving proper information to the media.
The journalists should write constructive criticism in their articles along with their routine items.
He advised them to write items relating to development works also which was also important to the people.
The media should not loose confidence among people by publishing only negative and fake items.
The people would benefit a lot even with a negative item relating to development.
He asked journalists to update themselves from time to time and also enhance their skills to give more good items.
Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudary said that the fourth estate was having equal responsibility along with legislature, executive and judiciary to protect the Constitution.
Media played key role many a time while the country was in crisis and the people believes in the news items and it was the duty of the journalists to uphold their ethics and values.
The PIB additional director-general, TVK Reddy said the news released from the PIB was purely official and PIB was giving wide publicity to the Central government schemes.
The PIB was planning to conduct more workshops for journalists and also interact with them.
The feedback also be sent to Central government departments from time to time, he added.
