3rd Vijayawada coin expo vows school children in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: District Collector B Lakshmikantham inaugurated the 3rd Vijayawada Coin Expo 2018 organised by Vijayawada Numismatic and Philatelic Association (VNPA) here on Friday. 

The three-day exhibition has 22 stalls displaying Indian coins and currency dating back to 2,500 years besides coins, paper currency, stamps, paintings and other objects. 

The stamp gallery was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Vijayawada division Santhosh Netha Kairamkonda.

Speaking on the occasion, VNPA organiser K Sridhar said that this expo was organised every year and this was the third time they were organising this expo. 

The exhibits of the expo are Rs 1 to Rs 2,000 paper currency, 1 paisa to Rs 1000 coin, currencies and coins of 250 countries across the world. 

Gold and silver coins of Satavahana, Iswakha and Pallavas period were included. World’s biggest note printed by Malaysia is also on display, said Sridhar.

He said that the main idea to organise the expo was to take the heritage to the next generations and to create interest on Numismatic and Philatelic to the present generation. 

About 1,000 students various schools and colleges were brought to educate them on Numismatics and Philately.

Rarest of the rare currencies, uncut currency sheets, gold note, silver note besides coins of Rs 20, Rs 25, Rs 50, Rs 75, Rs 100, Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 are on display and which are not in circulation, said Sridhar.

The expo is open from 10 am to 5 pm till September 9.
