Prakasam district stands 2nd, bags award at New Delhi on MGNREGS works

Ongole: Prakasam district Collector Vadarevu Vinay Chand, former PD of DWMA N Polappa, present PD of DWMA Venkateswarlu and other staff received awards from the Central government in a special award ceremony at New Delhi on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Rural Development organized a National Award Distribution Programme at Vignan Bhavan in New Delhi to honour the officials who performed best in implementing the MGNREGS in their districts. 

The Union Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Ram Kripal Yadav presented the award to Vinay Chand and other officers.

The MGNREGS programme was started in Prakasam district in 2008 and about 6.74 lakh people registered their names for work from 4.05 lakh families.

Last year, the workers received an average wage of Rs 137.57 and about 57759 workers received more than 100 days of work. 

In 2017-18, the government spent Rs 329 crore for the wages of the workers while Rs 272 crore were spent for various infrastructure works in villages and stood in second position all over India.

The collectorate staff and HoDs of various departments in the district met the Collector on Wednesday and congratulated him for achieving the award at national level.
