24 Semi-underground garbage bins set up in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: As many as 24 Semi Underground Garbage Bins were provided at eight important junctions across the city with the grant from Swacchandhra Mission, said VMC Commissioner J Nivas.
He explained the gathering on the inauguration of bins here on Tuesday.
Mayor K Sridhar, Swacchandhra Mission executive vice-chairman Dr KL Venkat Rao, Central MLA Bonda Uma Maheshwar Rao, Deputy Mayor Gogula Venkata Ramana Rao, local corporator Veeramachineni Lalitha participated in the inauguration of the bins.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said that Swacchandhra had allocated Rs 64 lakh for 24 bins and the bins were established with wall on three sides to keep the surroundings clean. The capacity of a bin was 1.5 tonnes, he added.
He said that it works on a fully automatic system. The bin will alert the officer with an SMS when it filled about 80 per cent.
He also informed that they arranged lights with the support of solar panel to lift the garbage during night, said the Commissioner.
Mayor Koneru Sridhar said that as part of the beautification of the city, they had taken up initiation to set these semi underground bins and they were arranged based on the garbage released by the area.
He appealed to the people to hand over the garbage to the garbage collecting sanitary team and not to throw on either side of the roads and in the drainages.
Health Officer Dr Rama Koteswara Rao, Executive Engineer J Srinivas and other officers were present.
