Aged have right to receive allowance from children says DLSA chairperson MG Priyadarsini

 Ongole: The society should utilise the experience of the old aged and lay path for the bright future, said the district judge and chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority, MG Priyadarsini.

The judge inaugurated the free medical camp organised by the DLSA and KIMS Hospital at the old age home run by the Samata Mahila Vedika in Seetharama Puram in Ongole on Tuesday.

She interacted with the elderly people and announced that according to Section 125 of CrPC, the old aged parents have right to receive allowance from their children or close relatives, if in case they do not have children. 

She said that if the children denied to provide the allowance, they are punishable as per the law. 

She also informed them that they are eligible to receive discount from 30 to 50 percent in buses and trains while up to 50 percent in airplanes.

The secretary of the DLSA, T Raja Venkatadri said that the elderly people are provided awareness on the welfare schemes and programmes by the government that they are eligible and the services they can receive through the MeeSeva centers by the revenue officials and MeeSeva center operators.

The KIMS general manager, M Narasimha Murthy, doctors Nanda Kishore, in-charge of Samata Mahila Vedika Vasani Ankababu, Viswasevika old age home in-charge T Lakshmi Narasamma, district MeeSeva coordinator Y Gopi Reddy and others also participated in the medical camp and legal awareness programme held for more than 100 old aged people.
