Update: 2018-10-01 05:30 IST

Ongole: The Dalit rights activist and film critic, Kathi Mahesh announced that he is contesting from Chittoor Parliamentary constituency in 2019 general elections.

Though not confirmed about joining any party, he said that discussions were going on with a major political party in the state.

Speaking in a press meet in Ongole on Sunday, Mahesh said that Dalits require political power to get their share of development in the country.

He said that he and other likeminded people were organising meetings with the Dalit intellectuals and scholars and encouraging the people with the movement background to join politics.

He opined that a new generation of leaders should be nurtured from the Dalit community as the existing leaders lost the confidence of people.
He said that there were a number of people from the Dalits who actively and voluntarily participated in Dalit rights movements and were ready to sacrifice themselves for the uplift of the community.

He said that they were planning to form a forum where all Dalit leaders, intellectuals and scholars irrespective of the parties and sub-castes work for common cause of the community, development and opportunities.

He offered sympathy to the Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan and asked him to follow his own suggestion to Sri Reddy.

He advised him to go and complain to the police with the proofs he had about the conspiracy to kill him than saying it loud in public.
