Tadepalligudem: Former minister and MLA Pydikondala Manikyala Rao on Sunday came down heavily on local administration and ruling TDP for making fun of his efforts to keep the town clean through Swachh Bharat.

Taking part in the programme in 32nd ward of the town, he alleged that TDP and ruling local administration leaders were heckling his participation in the programme in association with voluntary organisations, walkers club members and non-governmental organisations.

The MLA expressed displeasure over poor sanitation in the town. Drains in some wards had become sources of stench.

He called upon people to participate in Swachh Bharat programme to build a healthy society. It was responsibility of everybody to participate in the programme.

The programme launched by Prime Minister N Modi had created awareness among the people on health and clean environment.

Manikyala Rao urged the Council members to tour extensively in the town and inspect the cleanliness.
