Journos want lifting of ban on Daily Desher Katha Newspaper
Ongole: The members of Andhra Pradesh Journalists Forum, Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists and Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Federation demanded that the BJP-ruled state government of Tripura to lift ban on Daily Desher Katha, a daily newspaper in Bengali language.
They protested with the Communist parties’ leaders and members of public organisations in front of the district Collectorate on Wednesday morning.
The Daily Desher Katha is a 40-year-old newspaper and supports CPI (M) locally.
The district Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura, Agartala received a complaint on the daily that the newspaper had violated the Press and Registrations Act of 1867.
After hearings, the Collector opined that the Sections 5(1) and 5(2e) were violated and recommended the Registrar of Newspapers for India to cancel the certificate of registration and the RNI did it immediately.
The journalists from the unions including P Siva Rajesh, K Sowry Doas, M Srinivasa Rao, N Venkata Rao, Nageswara Rao, Madhavarao, Suresh, Brahmam, Communist leaders P Anjaneyulu, ML Narayana, PDDF president Chunduri Rangarao and others also participated in the protest.
