Blind Walk organised in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: About 100 walkers, players and others participated in a unique ‘Blind Walk’ to mark ‘World Sight Day’ (WSD) at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here on Thursday.
The blind walk was organised by Dara Karunasri of Karuna Eye Bank and Walkers International district 202. They displayed banners and raised slogans to donate eyes.
Speaking on the occasion, Karunasri said WSD was observed on second Thursday of October every year and this unique walk was organised to create awareness in people to donate eye.
She recalled that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had inaugurated eye donation fortnight camp to transform AP into a blind-free state.
She further said that since 2010 a record number of 2,000 corneas were collected, she added.
Walkers T Hanumantha Rao, A Amaranath, GDV Prasad Rao, R Krishna Rao, SI VVK Chowdary and others were present.
