Diversion of water from KC Canal to Anantapur opposed

Kurnool: Panyam YSRCP MLA Gowru Charitha Reddy has opposed the state government’s decision to divert Kurnool-Cuddappah (KC) Canal water to Anantapur. The MLA, party’s state General Secretary Gowru Venkata Reddy, YSRCP workers and farmers staged a protest at the Collectorate here on Monday.

Addressing the farmers and party activists, Charitha Reddy alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is taking revenge on Kurnool district farmers for not voting to the TDP in the last general elections.

The Krishna River Management Board has given clear instructions that the farmers of Kurnool and Kadapa districts can utilise 5.9 tmcft of water from Tungabhadra Dam, she stated and alleged that district in-charge Minister Kalva Srinivasulu is forcibly trying to take 2.49 tmcft of water to his own district Anantapur. She warned the TD government of facing the ire of farmers if water is diverted to Anantapur. Later, the YSRCP leaders handed over a memorandum to DRO.
