International day of disabled persons observed
Ongole: Secretary of District legal services authority and senior judge T Raja Venkatadri urged people to work for the protection and welfare of disabled persons.
He was speaking at a program organized by Help-Girl Advocacy Alliance and district legal services authority at Uma Manovikas Center located here on Kurnool road on Monday on the eve of International day of disabled persons.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that there is need for involving disabled persons in cultural, sports and other activities to raise their self-confidence and shine in their respective fields.
He promised that district legal services authority would provide necessary support for disabled people in this regard.
Junior civil judge P Suresh Kumar said that disabled persons have demonstrated their talent in the past and are capable of excelling in their respective fields.
Citing instances of disabled persons standing first in civil services examinations and sports, he said there is a need to support them and improve their self-confidence. Junior civil judge Vanisree said that disabled persons be given same treatment as others without any partiality.
Director of Uma Manovikas Center lamented that although several laws were formulated in support of disabled, none of them were properly implemented. He pointed out that disabled are finding it difficult to get certificates for disabled from government.
Among those who participated in the program include Help POBV Sagar, CH Manemma, Childline coordinator P Manthru Naik, staff member Koteshwar Rao, Uma Manovikas center in-charge M Eshwar Rao, and SKR Deaf School director A Anji Reddy.
